Bio

Scott Tyler grew up in the middle of an apricot field in a farmhouse built in 1910. His parents' started remodeling the house the day after Christmas when he was in third grade. During this process, we started finding things in the walls that were left there from previous owners; newspaper clippings, pictures, toys. It may be supposed that Scott found many of his songs in those walls as well. Listening to them is like uncovering something that no one has seen for some time, something personal, covered in dust, but important enough for someone to hide away. With his guitar slung over one shoulder and a harmonica around his neck, Scott is well acquainted with the sound and history of America’s folk and blues music and draws heavily upon those traditions as he writes something different than a typical folk song.

In April 2008, Scott Tyler completed work on "Storyville," an intimate album of nine original songs based loosely around the Biblical character of Cain. Starting with the boisterous wheezing of a revival tent pump organ and ending with the sound of broken stained glass, this is an album to confess your sins to. It’s the story of the hollowed out men who walk the God-forsaken streets in search of the ones they love, the time they’ve wasted and the hope of finding redemption. As of August 2008, Scott Tyler is a member of the "Electric Ghost Collective," a cooperative of musicians and visual artists located just outside of Asheville, North Carolina. The collective emphasizes a communal approach to creating, performing and recording.

"Who can judge what terror and hardship and isolation
may have excused him in the eyes of God?"

Graham Greene, The Lawless Roads.
